As we do with our clients, we at BuildPT encourage our own marketing team to get out of the office and contribute to toward outreach and charitable efforts throughout the community – efforts that promote movement and improve lives.
In this spirit, our marketing manager Ben Montgomery recently took on the new role of board member and marketing committee chair of Tour des Chutes, an annual multi-distance bike ride and 5K run/walk that supports cancer survivorship programs in Central Oregon.
One of the area’s premier movement-based fundraising events, Tour des Chutes has raised more than $700,000 for cancer survivors in Oregon’s high-desert.
“I was definitely humbled to be asked to play such an important role for Tour des Chutes and to be voted onto their board of directors,” Ben said. “Their work means so much to cancer survivors through our area, making it possible for both adults and children to be cared for and achieve a high quality of life both during and after treatment.”
Ben started working with Tour des Chutes last year when the organization was the beneficiary of an outreach/fundraising event he and BuildPT founder Tannus Quatre, PT, started in 2015 called Press On: Moving Lives Through Cancer.
An effort that celebrates the role movement and exercise play in the mental and physical well-being of those diagnosed with cancer, Press On raised $13,000 for Tour des Chutes in 2016.
“Tour des Chutes saw opportunity in working more closely with Press On after the success of last year’s event, which makes sense as the missions are so closely aligned” Ben said. “I’ll be looking for ways to tighten this relationship while I’m on their board.”
This year, Tour des Chutes will hold 100-, 75-, 50-, 25- and 7-mile rides, along with their 5K run/walk, on Saturday, June 8th. Just over three months later, Press On: Moving Lives Through Cancer will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23rd.
